Just in case, I also include the contents of /var/log/dmesg Install: cannot stat `r8168.ko': No such file or directory Make: Leaving directory `/usr/src/ linux-headers- 2.6.24- 15-generic' Make: *** No rule to make target `/src/Makefile'. build:41: /src/Makefile: No such file or directory Make: Entering directory `/usr/src/ linux-headers- 2.6.24- 15-generic' Make -C /lib/modules/ 2.6.24- 15-generic/ build SUBDIRS=/src modules Make: Leaving directory `/home/ blade2/ Desktop/ r8168-8. tmp_versions Module.symvers Modules.symvers rset Make: Entering directory `/home/ blade2/ Desktop/ r8168-8. # make clean modules (as root or with sudo) So I tried the same thing that I did for 7.10, yet this time got error messages. It solved my problem for Ubuntu 7.10 but now I have the same problem after upgrading from Ubuntu 7.10 to Ubuntu 8.04 beta. aspx?Langid= 1&PNid= 13&PFid= 5&Level= 5&Conn= 4&DownTypeID= 3&GetDown= false#2

I had the exactly same problem when I first installed Ubuntu 7.10 yet it was solved after I manually installed r8168 driver from Realtek and removed the old one (r8169) as well as putting r8169 in the blacklist. R8169 driver is loaded yet I don't think it supports Realteck RTL8111C network chip.

(Actually I upgraded from 7.10 to 8.04 beta.) It does not even have an IP address allocated. I've just installed Ubuntu 8.04 beta version and now can't use network at all. Lan: Realtek RTL 8111C chip (10/100/1000 Mbit) (This is a on-board network card.) M/B: Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L com.tw/ Products/ Motherboard/ Products_ Spec.aspx? ProductID= 2693 (I posted it when I tested beta version of Ubuntu 8.04, yet now I have 8.04 32bit Desktop Edition released version and, it still has the problem.)
